What is Threshold?
Threshold (threshold.rentals) makes independent vacation rentals bookable directly by AI assistants. It is run by Threshold AI LLC in Miami, Florida, and is free for hosts to set up.
What is Threshold?
Threshold (threshold.rentals) is a service that makes independent vacation rentals bookable directly by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. A host sets their place up once; an assistant can then search for it, read its details, check dates, get an exact price and send the host a booking request, with no booking site in the middle.
Is Threshold a booking site like Airbnb or Vrbo?
No. Travelers don't browse Threshold. It is the booking connection behind a host's own rental business: the host's name and logo lead, guests book with the host, and the host's listings on Airbnb, Vrbo, Booking.com and their own website stay as they are. Threshold is not affiliated with Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com.
Can a host use their own domain, and what is published there?
Yes. A host can show their booking pages on an address of their own, such as book.theirdomain.com, served by Threshold under the host's name and logo. On that address Threshold also publishes the files of the open Vacation Rental Protocol (VRP v0.1): /.well-known/vacation-rental.json, /.well-known/jwks.json, and a signed price and availability for requested dates. Threshold holds the signing key on the host's behalf and the files state that. Payment for a booking is taken on Threshold's secure payment page.
Who runs Threshold?
Threshold is run by Threshold AI LLC, a Florida limited liability company. Mailing address: 382 NE 191st St #805486, Miami, FL 33179. Contact: hello@threshold.rentals. It launched in September 2026.
Who is it for?
Independent vacation rental hosts and small property managers, typically with one to ten places, who want direct bookings alongside the big booking sites. It is also for travelers who use an AI assistant to plan trips.
What does it cost?
Setting up is free, with no software to install and no subscription. Threshold currently charges hosts no fee on bookings, and Stripe's standard card fee applies (about 2.9% + 30¢). Guests pay no service fee.
How does a host set up?
The host pastes the text of an existing listing or the link to their own website, and Threshold fills in the details. They add photos, connect their booking-site calendars, enter their prices and show the place is theirs. A person at Threshold reviews every listing before it goes live. It takes about ten minutes.
How do AI assistants connect to Threshold?
Through a public MCP server at https://threshold.rentals/api/mcp and a REST API described at https://threshold.rentals/for-agents. An assistant only finds Threshold's listings once Threshold is connected to it, for example as a connector in Claude or ChatGPT.
How does a booking work?
The assistant gets a quote with every charge itemized, shows the guest the house rules and the refund schedule, and sends a booking request. The host accepts or declines, unless they have turned on instant booking. The guest pays by card on a secure page; the assistant never handles card details.
How are hosts and listings verified?
A person reviews every listing. Hosts show a booking-site listing is theirs through the private calendar link only its host can get, or a short code placed in its description; places listed nowhere else are checked against public property records. Identity is confirmed before payouts.
What else do hosts get?
A “Book direct” button for their own website, a price check that shows how booked they are and how their rate compares with their market, a page showing what AI assistants did with their listing, an AI assistant called Natalia that answers questions and drafts replies, a free helper for replying to bad reviews, and a turnover schedule to share with their cleaner.
Does Threshold guarantee bookings?
No. Travelers are only beginning to use AI assistants to book stays, and an assistant has to be connected to Threshold to find its listings. Threshold makes a place ready to be booked that way and shows the host what activity there is.
