Schema markup for vacation rentals: the block that tells AI assistants what you offer
Updated October 18, 2026 · Threshold
Structured data is a short block of code, invisible to visitors, that states facts about a page in a vocabulary software understands (schema.org). For a rental, it says: this page is a vacation rental, here's where it is, how many it sleeps, what it has, and what it costs. Search engines use it for rich results; assistants use it to describe your place accurately instead of guessing.
An example
Adapt the values to your place and keep them true:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "VacationRental",
"name": "Pine Hollow Cabin",
"description": "A three-bedroom log cabin on a quiet road, 15 minutes from Lake Placid.",
"url": "https://www.pinehollowcabin.com/",
"image": ["https://www.pinehollowcabin.com/photos/front.jpg"],
"address": { "@type": "PostalAddress", "addressLocality": "Saranac Lake", "addressRegion": "NY", "addressCountry": "US" },
"containsPlace": {
"@type": "Accommodation",
"numberOfBedrooms": 3,
"occupancy": { "@type": "QuantitativeValue", "maxValue": 6 },
"amenityFeature": [
{ "@type": "LocationFeatureSpecification", "name": "Hot tub", "value": true },
{ "@type": "LocationFeatureSpecification", "name": "Pets allowed", "value": true }
]
},
"offers": { "@type": "Offer", "price": 245, "priceCurrency": "USD", "description": "Nightly price from, before cleaning and taxes" }
}
</script>Where to paste it
- WordPress: a “Custom HTML” block on the page, or a header-code plugin for that page.
- Squarespace: a Code block on the page, or the page's header code injection.
- Wix: Settings → Custom code, applied to that page, or an “Embed HTML” element.
- Other builders and property management systems: look for “custom code”, “embed”, “HTML” or “header scripts”. If there's none, ask your provider whether they add rental structured data for you.
One block per rental, on that rental's own page. Check it with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema Markup Validator.
Keep it true and current
Structured data that disagrees with the page (a different price, more guests than the page says) can be ignored or count against you. Update the starting price when your prices change.
Threshold hosts don't need to write this by hand: each Threshold listing page carries it automatically, and the Book direct page gives hosts a ready-made block, with the current price, to paste into their own website. See the full guide.
Questions hosts ask
What schema type should a vacation rental use?
schema.org VacationRental, with the address, the accommodation's bedrooms and occupancy, amenities, images and an offer with a starting price. LodgingBusiness works for a company with many units.
Does schema markup help with AI assistants?
It lets assistants and search engines read what your place is, where and for how many without guessing, which makes accurate descriptions and recommendations more likely. It doesn't replace readable text on the page.
How do I add schema markup on Wix or Squarespace?
Paste the JSON-LD block into the page's custom code: on Squarespace a Code block or page header injection, on Wix Settings → Custom code for that page or an Embed HTML element.
The free website check reads your site the way an assistant does: whether it's turned away, whether the text is there, whether it's labelled as a place to stay.
